“Over twenty years of friendship on the way to success”
The Swiss Café, a cooperation between Agnes Bissig (founder and owner) and Swiss baker-confectioner Thomas Achermann, opened on 27.08.2012.
It is located in the centre of Muonio, in western Finnish Lapland.
Muonio lies on the European route E8 on the way to the Nordkap and is an ideal place for a stopover.
The region around Muonio offers many different outdoor opportunities all-year round.
The nearby Pallas-Ylläs Nationalpark with it’s countless fells and lakes is one of the top destinations in Finnish Lapland.
Agnes is the founder and owner of the Swiss Cafe Konditoria and takes care of our clients in the coffee shop.
She has been living in Muonio since 2008 when she moved here from Locarno, Switzerland.
Her professional career started as a florist and she owned her own flower shop for twelve years.
Later on she worked in the hotel industry and in food retail.
Chef Confectioner & Photographer
Thomas is our Chef confectioner who takes care of the ‘culinary well’ of our guests, baking all our delicious products.
He is also a professional photographer – thru-out the coffee shop we have a large exhibition of his photographs from the stunning Fell Lapland’s landscape and the amazing Northern Lights/Aurora.
His professional career is widespread: he grew-up in his parents bakery and not surprisingly, also became a baker (in the forth generation). After several years working in different bakeries-confectioneries in Switzerland, he eventually got an education as an IT-Professional and worked in a banking environment for almost ten years.
In 2009 he left Switzerland and moved to Muonio in Finnish Lapland where he worked again as baker-confectioner.
In 2010 he founded his own company, promoting his other profession as a photographer.
In August 2012 he joined the Swiss Cafe as Chef confectioner.
